Scholarship Lifesavers for University of Idaho Students

By Nicole Hindberg on October 22, 2018

College is the most expensive three years of your life. As Ellen DeGeneres said, “College is the only occupation where your salary is -$30,000″. So unless your parents are paying for your college, you are struggling to pay for college. The University of Idaho, unlike many other schools, offers substantial scholarships that aren’t actually that hard to pay for. Some of those include:

1. Go Idaho! Scholarship program

This is the scholarship that is automatically applied to all students upon acceptance, whether or not you are in state or out of state. The only qualification is having a certain G.P.A. in high school.

For in-state students there are three tiers to the scholarships based off your high school G.P.A. The platinum tier is $4,000 every year for four years, just for having a G.P.A of 3.9-4.0. The Gold tier is $3,000 every year for four years, just for having a G.P.A of 3.75-3.899. The Silver tier is $2,000 every year for four years, just for having a G.P.A. of 3.4-3.749. The Bronze tier is $1,000 every year for four years, just for having a G.P.A. of 3.0-3.99.

For out of state students there are four tiers as well. The platinum tier is $8,000 every year for four years, just for having a G.P.A of 3.9-4.0. The Gold tier is $6,000 every year for four years, just for having a G.P.A of 3.75-3.899. The Silver tier is $5,000 every year for four years, just for having a G.P.A. of 3.4-3.749. The Bronze tier is $2,000 every year for four years, just for having a G.P.A. of 3.0-3.99.

The best part of this is that it’s guaranteed for four years and you don’t have to reapply for them or do anything to get them again!

2. Idaho Opportunity Scholarship

This scholarship is for students who graduated from an Idaho high school planning to go to any college in Idaho. This scholarship award is for $3,500 every year for four years. All that you have to do for this scholarship is fill out a short application and complete your FAFSA in time. Once you receive the scholarship you just have to renew the scholarship every year by answering a few questions that only takes a few minutes.

Typically, almost all University of Idaho students receive the Go Idaho! scholarship and the Opportunity Scholarship together. That’s a total of between $4,500-$7,500 every year for four years, for doing minimal effort!

3. Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship

Awarded to Idaho high school graduates planning to attend any college in Idaho. The award is $3,000 renewable for up to four years.

The application is slightly longer than the other’s mentioned in this post, but the process won’t take you longer than an hour as long as you have two reference letters. Your chances of getting the scholarship are very good.

There are countless scholarships available for students going to school in Idaho but these were some of the few of the most substantial ones. Some websites that feature other scholarships are the Idaho Board of Education website, collegescholarships.com, and FastWeb scholarships. With these websites, the process of applying for scholarships can be easy and pain-free. The application process for college is stressful enough, so do yourself a favor and apply for these scholarships without putting in that much effort.
